Koekko vocalize to navigate caves and dense jungles and to communicate. Koekko colony members bond by singing and grooming each other. However, their obsession for tasty Drakky Fruit can make colony members change from friends to competitors.
Personalities and Behaviors
Known for being lively and loud, Koekko are difficult creatures to handle. Only the most dedicated people bother to raise and study them. Despite their difficulty around humans, Koekko are kindhearted and social to each other.
Being social creatures, Koekko finds comfort in large numbers; they spend their time grooming and singing with their friends in the colony. However, Koekko may become anxious when they are without companions. Solitary Koekko will weep and their health may even decline.
Koekko are somewhat messy creatures; they often spill juices as they eat and leave droppings as they fly.
History and Culture
Koekko are notorious pests, making them unwanted by most people. Throughout history these creatures ravaged fruit fields and terrorized Drakky Fruit gardens. Because of the damage they cause Koekko are killed by farmers with the use of traps and poisons.
To prevent the extermination of Koekko, the Shepherd’s Guild instead assists in capturing and releasing them into habitats where they can’t harm human agriculture. Some more patient Shepherds may even train these Koekko to be able to live among humans as pets and as mail carriers.
Abilities
These creatures have an extraordinary sense of smell and hearing. They are able to evade danger by listening to their predators’ movements from miles away. However, because of their sensitivity to sound Koekko can be left dazed by noises too loud to handle.
Koekko has the ability to manipulate Wind magic to stay in the air with minimal effort and to add power behind their voice. The effects of their unique calls includes the power to jam radios and shatter glass.
Ecology
Koekko commonly inhabits jungles, rainforests and caves, however on rare occassionals they can be found in abandonned buildings where they are viewed as pests. Despite this, Koekko plays an impirtant enviornmental role as they and disperse fruit seeds and fertilize the jungle with their droppings.
Diet
Being herbivorous creatures, Koekko feed on fruit and nectar from tree flowers. However, their very favorite food are the juices found in Drakky Fruit. If a large swarm of Koekko catches the smell of a Drakky Fruit they may fight each other over it.
